The 'Ramayana' series, produced by Ramanand Sagar, aired weekly on Doordarshan on Sundays in 1987.
It starred Hindi actor Arun Kovil as Rama, actress Deepika Seetha as boxer and boxer Tara Singh as Anumana. At the same time, millions of people across the country watched the series.
When the general ban was implemented last year, Doordarshan TV rebroadcast the 'Ramayana' series 33 years later for the convenience of the people at home.
Doordarshan has announced on its official Twitter account that the 'Ramayana' series has set a world record for the most watched TV entertainment show in the world.
The series is currently airing again on Colors TV from yesterday (May 06). Thus the hashtag Ramayana became a trend on Twitter across India.
